Promises were made to be kept.

You or one of your parents made a promise. An oath was made, to support and defend the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. A sacrifice was made, one that impacted not only the veteran or the service member, but their entire family.

How many birthdays, anniversaries, and holidays have been missed? How many first steps, first words, and first touchdowns have been shared by letter, a rare phone call, or email?

In exchange for this oath, a Marine didn’t ask for much. Marines don’t do it for the pay, after all! But the Corps did make some promises: a promise of good healthcare and decent housing for Marines and their families.

If you or someone you know lived or worked at Camp Lejeune from 1957 to 1987, you probably already know that the U.S. Government didn’t keep their promise to provide decent housing to Marines and their families.

But promises were made to be kept.

YOU NEED A BATTLE BUDDY

Mistakes Need to Be Fixed

From 1957 to 1987, the water at Camp Lejeune was contaminated. Underground storage tanks were leaking benzene and other toxic chemicals into the water supply, making it potentially dangerous to drink or even to wash with.

A lot of these chemicals are carcinogenic, and the cancers they cause might not have showed up until years after someone left Lejeune. But now we know how bad the problem was, and the U.S. government has opened the door to allow the victims of this mess to start getting some restitution.

Cancer

Contamination at Camp Lejeune has been linked to several different types of cancer, including:

Colon Lung
Esophageal Breast

Rectal Prostate
Leukemia Bladder

Larynx Soft tissue

Fertility Problems

Men and women from Camp Lejeune have sometimes faced family planning problems like infertility.

For women, endometriosis, menstrual dysfunction, Fallopian tube damage, and ovulation disorders have been reported in Camp Lejeune veterans. There have been some reports of miscarriage linked to water contamination.

In children born to Camp Lejeune veterans, there are reports of low birth weight, neural tube defects, oral defects (like cleft lip or cleft palate), or other congenital problems. Some have also reported an increase in fetal death.

These health problems may have taken years of health, vitality, and even life from the people that you love, or even from you.

This is About Setting Things Right

There may be financial compensation available that can help with medical bills, living expenses, and even compensate you or your loved one for some of the damages that you’ve experienced.

But this isn’t really about the money. It’s about making things right — about giving the United States and the Marine Corps a chance to fix their mistake and finally answer for the problems that they’ve caused to the bodies of Marines, their spouses, and their children.

YOU’RE NOT IN THIS ALONE

Find Out if You Qualify

Only an attorney can tell you whether your case may qualify for compensation, but you can use our self-quiz option to find out more information about the criteria generally used to qualify claimants and potential claimants in cases like these.

We can help you find an attorney, even if your case doesn’t look like the best fit. But if you’re looking for more information, this is a good place to start.
